Native plants are home to hundreds of butterflies

No trees have been cut during the construction —they provide shade during the hottest months and a  home to birds, iguanas, other lizards and insects;

Utila Jungle Eco Lodge has been designed for those who would like to contribute to preserving Utila’s tropical paradise.

Buildings have been designed based on an Asian model, with the top two feet of each wall open, providing maximum air circulation and saving on electricity for cooling;

The Lodge collects rain water which is stored in its own water cistern;

All ‘grey’ water is being used for watering the garden;

Most of the plants in the garden are native, with a few imports for color;

Special plants have been chosen to encourage birds and butterflies;

Bathrooms are made of river rocks from La Ceiba, which create cool and refreshing space; bathroom roofs are transparent, enabling plants to grow in the humid bathroom environment.
