Native plants are home to hundreds of butterflies |
No trees have been cut during the construction —they provide shade during the hottest months and a home to birds, iguanas, other lizards and insects; |
Utila Jungle Eco Lodge has been designed for those who would like to contribute to preserving Utila’s tropical paradise. |
Buildings have been designed based on an Asian model, with the top two feet of each wall open, providing maximum air circulation and saving on electricity for cooling; |
The Lodge collects rain water which is stored in its own water cistern; |
All ‘grey’ water is being used for watering the garden; |
Most of the plants in the garden are native, with a few imports for color; |
Special plants have been chosen to encourage birds and butterflies; |
Bathrooms are made of river rocks from La Ceiba, which create cool and refreshing space; bathroom roofs are transparent, enabling plants to grow in the humid bathroom environment. |
